The wait is finally over! Microsoft the Creation version on 8/19/2015 for Windows 10. The release of this tools comes in conjunction with Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 3 in case you are interested in checking it all out. A few caveats, remote server administration tools will only work on complete versions of Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise and there isn’t currently any support for Windows RT.. In case you had installed any prior release of this tool you’ll have to uninstall it before installing this latest version. You may also notice that Microsoft left out the majority of the IP address management applications. DHCP control isn’t contained, and MS has stated that admins can use Powershell to administer DHCP servers. Hopefully we’ll see this re-added in the not too distant future.

remote server administration tools

I had a problem getting this to work as I had Attempted installing the Windows 10 RSAT Preview which was non-functional from Windows 10 Enterprise’s production release. When I looked for the RSAT preview to uninstall it did not appear for me beneath the updates. I set up the newest version of RSAT but noticed it wasn’t working, along with the Remote Server Administration Tool features did not appear menu on or off under the Turn Windows attributes. I re-installed the RSAT tools again, uninstalled it, and found KB 2693643 under the Installed Upgrades. This time the attributes showed up and the tools were functional under the MMC console.

Step 2: Run the RSAT installer

  1. Double click on the setup file to run the installer
  2. Select”I accept” on the license Conditions
  3. Click on restart now

Once the computer reboots the RSAT software should be installed. At one stage you had to go into Programs and Features and add the extra attribute but it looks like that is now done. You can verify the attributes are added with step 3.

Step 3: Confirm RSAT set up

  1. In the search box type”Programs and Characteristics” Select “Switch Windows features off or on”
  2. From the Windows Features box, scroll down and locate”Remote Server Management Applications. Expand the box “Role Administration Tools”. You should now see all the resources for AD, DHCP, DNS and so forth.
  3. Now I can start utilizing the tools that were RSAT, I searched for Active Directory and that I can see the resources I want to manage Active Directory.

I hope you found this tutorial useful.
